The world winner accused that the FIA of trying to”prevent” him as he moves closer to shooting his seventh world championship later that he was penalised in the Russian Grand Prix. On the other hand, the F1 race manager, Michael Masi, has insisted there isn’t any prejudice against the British motorist.
Hamilton was awarded two five-second penalties at Sochi for shooting a clinic start beyond the designated place from the pit lane departure on his way to the grid. He started from pole but after he took the penalties through a pit stop the very best he could manage was to return to third. He described the punishment as”absurd” and stated: “It’s to be anticipated, they’re attempting to prevent me are not they”
“From an FIA standpoint we’re there as a sporting ruler to administer regulations,” he explained. “We possess the stewards as an independent judiciary to adjudicate all those, and consequently there was a breach also it is irrelevant whether it had been Lewis Hamilton or someone of those additional 19 drivers. If a violation has occurred of these regulations that they will consider it on its own merits. Additionally further to this, I’d say [that they ] adjudicate it equitably and in the conditions, taking each the major elements into consideration.”
Hamilton was originally also awarded two penalty points to the violation, later rescinded as it became apparent Mercedes had informed the driver it was okay for him to practise his launch farther down the pit lane than was permitted. Hamilton has stated he may go over the subject with Masi ahead of another round in the Nurburgring and also the race manager made it clear he’d welcome an opportunity to explain the FIA place.
“From my standpoint, it is very easy that if Lewis would like to increase something — because I’ve mentioned to him earlier and explained to all of the driver’s numerous occasions — that the door is always open, I am more than pleased to discuss something,” he explained.
Mercedes didn’t appeal against the penalties but contended that there was ambiguity in the principles which didn’t specify where a motorist could function starts. The Mercedes engineering manager, Andrew Shovlin, has acknowledged that they were immediately concerned that Hamilton had gone down the pit lane departure. “We had not realised how much he was going to proceed,” he explained. “When we watched that the automobile position it wasn’t an entire surprise they did not enjoy it”
